Next steps in measurements of cosmic ray electrons

Abstract

Recent results from ATIC, Fermi, PAMELA, and HESS have suggested that there may - or may not be - either dark matter annihilations or local sources of high energy electrons whose presence is reflected in features in the high energy electron spectrum. The electron measurements are reviewed, together with a discussion of planned new experiments intended to provide more conclusive measurements of the electron spectrum up to energies in excess of 1 TeV - in particular, the upcoming CALET, DAMPE, and CREST experiments. © 2013 American Institute of Physics.
