Elliot angular momentum states projected from the gel'fand U(3) basis

Abstract

Eigenstates of the total orbital angular momentum and one component thereof are obtained by projection from the extremal U(3) basis states for the isotropic harmonic oscillator. A rule complementary to that given by Elliott for the requisite quantum number K is given and the interpretation of the use of K in state labeling is clarified. An explicit form for the normalization and overlap integrals of the projected states is developed in a form convenient for machine coding. © 1968.
