These two studies of N = 507 undergraduates investigate factors that cause differences in siblings. The first study looks at conflict tactics and conflict traits and asks if they are related to sibling deidentification. The second study looks at media use and asks if it cultivates differences in family communication practices. Results of study one indicates that conflict tactics and traits are predictive of sibling deidentification. Results of study two are mixed. Media use is associated with a lower conversation orientation, but is not related to conformity orientation.
