Abstract

The energy effectiveness of a transformation system is expected to improve when the system is electrified. Existing batteries do not have sufficient endurance or effectiveness, so electric-only cars are not capable of competing with current advanced vehicles. on the other hand, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) have demonstrated their efficacy as attainable, short-range technology choices capable of competing with conventional vehicles. The study proposed in this paper performed reliability assessments of existing power system infrastructures at several PHEV penetration rates. Reliability indices, as numerical variables, can be represented simply as penalty costs for intermission and loss of energy. In the study, several PHEV penetration levels were simulated, and the loss of load probability (LOLP) index was calculated to consider the influence of PHEVs on the reliability of power networks. Furthermore, the minimum generation adequacy of the generation units was evaluated. The results indicated that the infrastructures of our current power systems are not sufficiently strong to handle these increased penetration rates.
