Abstract
The paper determines, for a linear load supplied from a nonsinusoidal source, the distortion power and the source-current rms minimal values possible by harmonic-component reactive-power compensation. It is pointed out that such a compensation produces in the power system much less distortion than capacitive compensation. It is also shown that the required compensating reactance 1-port connected to the load is of less complexity than normally supposed.
