Abstract
A unified laboratory approach was formed at the Department of Chemistry, University of Florida, to handle the logistics associated with teaching and research in polymer chemistry. The Butler Laboratory comprises students from three research groups that intermingled with each other throughout the laboratory. Collaborating in this manner results in a more efficient use of the financial resources because redundancies are elimininated both in operating and capital expenses. The approach also aids new faculty since they immediately join larger polymer effort which can support their goals. The unified approach has helped the polymer chemistry program grow in a big size, making it the nation's largest chemistry department.
