Abstract

Frontal polymerization has been observed in solid monomers such as acrylamide, the initiator used in potassium persulfate. The effect of green density on front velocity, product morphology, and front temperature has been studied. While green density had little effect on morphology of the polymer, it had an interesting effect on front velocity. Front temperature, as well as thermal diffusivity, also appeared to be affected by green density. NMR, IR and TGA gave insightful information about polymer structure and side reactions.
