Abstract

The Delinquents is a collection of short fiction exploring several facets of the contemporary, suburban American South. Over the course of eight stories, the collection examines the quiet, domestic lives of the middle and working classes—lives that often seem endangered by a rapidly changing social and economic landscape. With viewpoints ranging from young boys to middle-aged women, from laid-off plumbers to independent-league baseball players to non-profit grant writers, The Delinquents interrogates contemporary issues of labor, class, gender, faith, and violence across a spectrum of identities.
