Abstract

The main objective of this study is to examine the financial effects of Turkey's trade liberalization efforts, and evaluate the policy decisions made during the transition period toward full membership in the EU. In addition, trade relations between the enlarged EU and the rest of the world modeled to obtain complete general equilibrium results of Turkey-EU integration. In order to accomplish this objective, a single-country, multi-sector computable general equilibrium model is developed. The sectors evaluated are agriculture, manufacturing, and services. The Turkish economy is divided into 22 sectors: 2 agricultural, 18 manufacturing, and 2 services sectors. By so doing, the budgetary impacts of Turkish integration into the EU are analyzed using various policy scenarios. Also, comparative static analyses of production, tariff rates, and the budget relations are conducted.
